First off, whatever you GPS tells you to do… Do this instead! (to avoid tiny streets and possibly scraping the bottom of your camper on railroad tracks!!!) When you get off I-10, and get to Nicholson, go down to Skip Berman to get over to River Rd. Then turn left. We passed it up and had to carefully turn around in the middle of the road. There is one faded sign on the corner of River Rd. and Lake Beau Pre Blvd. You need to turn left here, then the RV entrance will be on your right.
They have 30amp electric and water. And a dump station. It’s $20/night. There’s a 14 day maximum stay. It’s a big grass field with gravel roads. There are 108 spots according to the website but there were only 7 campers here while we were here. It was fairly desolate. The hookups are old. Most of the water spigots leak. And I would HIGHLY recommend having a surge protector… We blew two fuses in our power converter before switching to a different box.
Allen said the showers were fine. I thought they looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in at least a month. But I did see someone going in to clean, so I won’t pass TOO much judgement on that… I feel like you get super lucky if you have a sparkling clean campground bathroom anyway…
The cool things: It’s on the same property as the Baton Rouge Equestrian Center. So you get to see horses all day long. And there is the Mississippi River Walking Path right across the street. It’s really close to LSU, 5 minutes away. We had some amazingly delicious crawfish at Sammy’s Grill, about a 10-15 minute drive. Walmart and other shopping is right up the street also, yet you don’t feel like you are in the city at all.
I wouldn’t mind staying here again for a couple of days. I would however make sure to have a surge protector, and I would hope it was during the dry season. Does Louisiana even have a dry season??? It’s squishy but not half as bad as Pine Crest RV Park in Slidell…
