Who would’ve thought I’d be so good at cooking steak?! I am usually terrible at it! Let me just say that Allen was so happy! He rarely gets to have beef at home… Poor guy. This was pretty simple. I’m pretty sure the trick is in the marinade. Or maybe the thin slices. Possibly the skewers. Maybe the combination… Thank you Taste of Home Grilling magazine. (Also thank you for the Garlicky Grilled Green Beans we had with this, and the Cajun Boil on the Grill we had earlier this week…)
- steak-ribeye, sirloin, whatever you want, as long as it’s almost an inch thick-you don’t want the little skinny guys for this
- 3tbsp sugar
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 3tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 tsp hot sauce
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
Mix all the ingredients besides the steak for the marinade. The steaks are easier to slice if they are partially frozen, just fyi. Slice them crosswise 1/4″ thick and add them to the marinade, in a ziplock baggie. Let them sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours, turning over occasionally. Overnight would be even more delicious! Thread them onto skewers. Grill them over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes on each side. They don’t take long, and you want a little caramelized color… Enjoy!
We were too busy eating this with Garlicky Green Beans for me to snap a photo, so you’ll have to settle for a shot from the magazine for now. But next time, and there will be a next time, I promise I’ll get a photo!
